About Us

The Indivisible movement was founded in 2016 in the belief that proactive, grass-root, organizations provide the opportunity to have “the people” voice their commitments to maintaining and improving our democracy in order to create a “more perfect union.” Our belief is the “power of the people” comes not only from numbers of people standing together, but also, from the beginning, in our guiding principles of both our right to free speech and a commitment to non-violence. Movements that create lasting change do so by building trust, forging solidarity and demonstrating discipline, even in the face of threats or attacks. Our organization is grounded in commitment, courage, solidarity and the unshakeable belief that a better, more just democracy is worth standing for-together.

We are a coalition of volunteer concerned citizens standing together to protect democracy, defend social justice (especially for marginalized communities), protect all our neighbors (regardless of immigration status), fight corruption within our government, and demand accountability for actions taken in our name such as violations of the rule of law and illegal wars. We are not directly associated with any political party, but are available to all people who stand for these principles. We believe in a multiracial, inclusive democracy where everyone has equal rights and equal power, no matter where they live or what they look like.

Our activities include bimonthly in-person meetings, distributing bimonthly newsletters to our members, initiating and organizing local events highlighting our commitments to democratic principles, and organizing additional events in coordination with other local, state, and national events. Our events have always remained non-violent as our steering committee and event marshals have been extensively trained in non-violent, de-escalation techniques.

In addition to these events that support our commitment to maintaining democratic norms, we are also committed to supporting marginalized communities that are struggling in these current econornic times. In that regard we also develop and support community outreach events. These include donation collections to support homeless shelters, food banks, immigrant families, school supplies for disadvantaged students, and other support for those struggling in these challenging times.
